New York and Male Urgings

I was crossing 20th St when I heard this voice from a car stopped in the intersection, "Excuse Me!   EXCUSE ME!"  I turned around expecting to give a lost tourist directions, but instead this portly fellow shouts, "My WIFE tells me you better zip your JACKET up or you're going to catch a COLD!"  So I did.  And ladies and gentlemen, I didn't catch a cold.
Ah, New York.  God speaks in mysterious ways.
Immediately after that I was headed to the cash register at Gristedes and out of nowhere I heard myself say out loud "mmm... bacon".  I wasn't even in the meats, I was in the laundry detergent aisle.  Some things must be built into guys' DNA

On an unrelated note I've realized how important it is to keep a journal.  For an essay I'm writing, I've been going back and reading journals from my Guatemala trips, and it's interesting seeing what was going on in my head back then.

I've had a horrible day, and it's partly my fault, partly the fault of the Brazilian and American governments.

I was supposed to fly to Florianopolis last night, but they told me I needed a tourist visa.  I've been to Ireland, Japan, and Guatemala in the last two years and never needed a visa.  So, ok, I can get a visa in 24 hours and push my flight back.  The Brazilian government makes it annoying for Americans to go there only because the US makes it very difficult for Brazilians to get an American visa.  From the Brazilian consulate web site:
U.S. passport holders must pay a processing fee of US130.00 in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a tourist visa to the U.S.;

Only when I get to the consulate, they refuse to issue me a visa since my mother is a Brazilian citizen.  This makes me a Brazilian citizen, and I'm only allowed into Brazil with my Brazilian passport which expired 10 years ago.  To renew the passport I need my old passport (in Wisconsin), my Brazilian birth certificate (which my mom has never heard of), and a form saying that I'll comply with military duties.  Yes, even though I was born in New Jersey, Brazil supposedly issued me a Brazilian birth certificate when I got my passport 15 years ago.

A bright spot in all this is that Delta can keep my ticket open until November, so I can still head down there once the passport gets sorted out.

Little-known fact: Michael Phelps has partnered with the Ghostbusters on several occasions to fight evil:

This was a pretty fun Halloween - what other day of the year can you see four Michael Jacksons run into each other on the street and have an impromptu dance-off?  (Michael Jackson in the red Thriller outfit won)  We went to a party in Brooklyn that had a code to get in, apparently.  I had a few dance moves up my sleeve, such as the butterfly, the backstroke, freestyle, and doggy paddle.  At first I was apprehensive about midget-tossing, but overall the experience was very organic.

Does anyone remember the song The Girl Is Mine?  I'm a lover, not fighter.

My mission for this week is to use the word organic nonsensically in a sentence everyday.

Does anyone know the song 마범의 성 (Magic Castle) by the Classic?
My world was turned upside-down today when I discovered that Natalie Grant used the melody for an English version called Enchanted Dream.  What in the world??
